Job Overview
Responsible for the 24/7 support of Microsoft MSSQL production database services to ensure the highest standards of availability, resilience, integrity, security and performance required by the business systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the databases that support the system
- Work with the team to ensure that the associated hardware resources allocated to the databases and to ensure high availability and optimum performance
- To proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime
- Responsible for providing trend analysis to the service management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management
- Responsible for problem escalation to Microsoft Development team and third parties as appropriate
- Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and upgrades
- Responsible for implementation and release of database changes as submitted by the development team
Skills / Attributes Required
- Strong Microsoft MSSQL Database Administration experience
- Experience of managing multiple RDBMS on large systems
- Experience of working in a team that delivers a high availability service
- Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service
- Experience of SQL Server is desirable
Education and Experience Required
- Will typically have a B.S. in Computer Science and a minimum of three (3) years of related experience preferably in Microsoft MSSQL systems or application administration
- Concepts, principles and practices of systems administration
- Monitoring tools to ensure required availability of assigned systems
- DHCP, LDAP and DNS
- Backup and recovery technologies
- Virtualization concepts and technologies
- Network and security concepts and technologies
- Concepts, principles and practices of automation
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
