Qualio is a tech startup that is the first cloud quality management software for the entire Life Sciences ecosystem. Medical device and pharmaceutical companies need a secure and scalable quality management system with the flexibility to support their evolving needs. Qualio meets that challenge by cutting through the complexity to optimize and automate critical quality processes.
We are a completely remote-based company with Qualio teammates distributed across North America & Europe.
What is the opportunity?
We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced, confident and highly motivated Engineering Team Lead to join our dynamic, collaborative and remote-first Qualio team!
As part of our exciting expansion plans, we are looking to bring on board a technical team lead who will be joining our ever-growing, passionate Engineering team (with the added bonus of a great sense of humour!). You will be working on cutting-edge, industry-leading products to deliver new feature areas that are growing beyond an MVP, with plenty of opportunities to work on both brownfield and greenfield product developments.
We are looking for an efficacious technical leader to take the lead in making the MVP a cornerstone product within Qualio’s offering and overcome some of the challenges we are facing, such as:
- We currently iteratively deliver features in a monolithic codebase, all the while moving the team to their own code base with dedicated infrastructure
- We want to increase the velocity of the team by adding in more automated testing and releasing with zero downtime
- We need someone who will take ownership of their own infrastructure, automating it, treating it as code and moving towards managed services.
We are predominantly a python shop, but we also use Node.js, TypeScript, React, AngularJS, REST APIs and host our cloud software in AWS. We're open to developers who have expertise in different languages as long as you're open to learning.
If you’re a technical team leader who has real strengths in problem-solving and wants to bring their experience, creativity and influence to a very progressive, fast-paced and collaborative company where you can be the driving force behind industry-leading products - we would love to hear from you!
What will I be doing?
At Qualio, the engineering department is responsible for the "what" and the "how". "What" as in what should we build for our customers. "How" as in how do we delivery and operate the solution. We are a group of independent teams, each with their own vertical area of ownership. Soup to nuts - everything is owned by the team. As Werner Vogels says, "You build it, you run it".
We need someone who will take pride in:
- Working with the Product Manager to understand customer problems
- Leading the team in designing, implementing & delivering solutions to customer problems
- Working with the Director of Engineering to deliver on engineering goals
- Being a Line Manager to your team of 3-5 software engineers
Who are you?
- A dynamic, go-getter who would thrive in a fast-paced tech start-up environment
- You like the sound of working for a fully remote-based organisation with lots of opportunities to build and own both brownfield and greenfield products from start to finish
- You have full stack experience building products on the back-end in either Python, Typescript or Node.JS and React, Vue or AngularJS in the front-end
- You live and work in the UK or an EU country without visa restrictions or requiring sponsorship.
- You have strong written and verbal communication skills (in English).
- Strong team player with a collaborative mindset
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to maintain a proactive and positive attitude in a fast-paced, changing environment
Required Skills
- You have good experience leading and growing a talented team of engineers
- You’re a confident, independent individual who’s not afraid of ambiguity and can maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced, changing environment
- You’re a dynamic individual who can bring fresh ideas and energy to the team
- You can code. The role requires you to code with the team. Python is preferred but not a deal-breaker
- You can shape ideas and guide the team in breaking them into tasks
- You know AWS infrastructure. Specifically EC2 and related technologies e.g. ELB, Security groups, VPCs, etc.
- You know how to make trade-offs today without sacrificing tomorrow.
- You have experience working in regulated industries
