Research Engineer - Layer 2

Description

IO Global, creator of the Cardano blockchain platform, is searching for a Research Engineer to conduct research into layer 2 protocols, and to translate the findings into formal specifications and implementations.

As a Research Engineer at IOG you will combine well-developed research skills with a passion for collaborating in innovative research projects on topics in distributed ledger technology. You will produce formal specifications based on research papers, refining specifications and working towards high quality designs, prototypes and practical implementations. Finally, based on specifications, designs, simulations and/or prototypes, you will advise and assist other development teams to implement and integrate this work into production systems.

Your mission

• Representing the company at academic and industry conferences
• Sharing technical information in blog posts, reports, and presentations at internal seminars
• Writing research papers for submission to top conferences and journals in the field
• Reviewing technical pre-prints and manuscripts related to blockchain technology
• Working independently as well as with other IOG researchers and external collaborators
• Producing semi-formal, formal, and executable specifications and prototypes, based on research papers and communication with researchers
• Modeling the performance of formally specified systems
• Producing prototypes and simulations
• Refining specifications, and using performance models and simulations to gauge the impact of design decisions during refinements
• Some international travel and short relocation assignments as required.

Requirements

Your expertise

• A PhD degree in mathematics, computer science, or a related field, with a focus on an area related to blockchain systems, such as cryptography, information security, or distributed systems
• An excellent record of peer-reviewed publications
• Practices programming in a demonstrable and consistent manner and has a wide grasp of its underlying fundamentals
• Familiarity with blockchain technology, and cryptocurrencies
• You are passionate about blockchain technology and are motivated to do excellent work
• You will be someone who works well on your own or with a team
• You value cooperation and collaboration above all, and are not afraid to ask for clarification or help when needed
• You are kind and respectful of others’ opinions, you are open, and you act with integrity when engaging in academic or technical discussions.
