Who We Are

Semaphore (semaphore.io) is an open-source, cloud-native CI/CD platform trusted by engineering teams worldwide. We value craftsmanship, transparency, and continuous learning. As a globally distributed team, we care deeply about building meaningful software — and supporting the people who build it.

We’re looking for an HR Generalist who thrives in a dynamic, fast-evolving environment, enjoys rolling up their sleeves, and is comfortable balancing hands-on operational work with people-focused initiatives. Someone flexible, organised, and resourceful — ready to help shape and support a high-performing remote culture. The role is based in our Novi Sad office.

What You’ll Do

Talent & Hiring

  • Partner with engineering and product leads to understand hiring needs — from developers to support, operations, and beyond.
  • Manage the end-to-end recruitment process: draft and post job ads, screen CVs, coordinate interviews, communicate with candidates, and help ensure a delightful, respectful candidate experience.
  • Facilitate smooth onboarding for new team members (documentation, access, orientation, remote-work setup, probation follow-ups).

People Support & Employee Experience

  • Serve as a friendly, reliable point of contact for team questions related to HR, benefits, remote-work policies, and company culture.
  • Help resolve day-to-day issues, concerns, or conflicts; escalate when needed; and promote transparent communication.
  • Organise remote-friendly team-building activities, virtual get-togethers, or occasional in-person meetups (where relevant) to strengthen bonds across our global team.

HR Administration, Compliance & Legal Coordination

  • Maintain employee records, contracts, and HR documentation in an organised manner (digital HRIS, secure data practices).
  • Oversee leave/remote-work requests, track time off, support payroll preparation ( outsourced and managed internally), and ensure local employment compliance.
  • Act as the primary HR contact for local legal advisors, coordinating and supporting operational-related legal and corporate matters.
  • Help define and maintain HR policies appropriate for a remote, distributed, international team.

Learning, Growth & Retention

  • Help design and support a framework for performance reviews, feedback cycles, and career growth paths.
  • Collect and analyse feedback (surveys, one-on-ones, retrospectives) to help shape a continuously improving workplace.

Culture, Well-Being & Inclusion

  • Be a champion for an open, inclusive, supportive work environment.
  • Promote work-life balance and well-being for all team members.
  • Help drive initiatives that reflect Semaphore’s values — collaboration, craftsmanship, continuous learning and improvement.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or similar.
  • 2–5 years of experience in an HR-generalist or HR-coordination role — ideally in a tech company or in a distributed/remote-first organisation.
  • Knowledge of local labour laws and compliance matters.
  • Experience working with external legal advisors and supporting HR-related legal or corporate changes.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, empathy, discretion, and excellent communication skills (written & verbal).
  • Comfortable working with people across different time zones and cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience with digital HR tools / HRIS / remote-work administration is a plus.
  • A proactive mindset, with a passion for culture, people, and building good processes.

Why You’ll Love Working With Us

  • You’ll be part of a global, remote-first team united by shared values of craftsmanship, openness, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • You’ll have a meaningful impact — shaping culture, supporting people’s growth, and helping nurture an environment of trust and respect.
  • Flexible work arrangements, respect for work-life balance, and autonomy to contribute ideas.
  • Opportunity to grow with us as we scale — playing a key role in shaping HR frameworks, people processes, and team experience in a growing, ambitious tech company.
  • Working in a company committed to open source and empowering developers worldwide — helping create tools that developers love.
