Job Description

AutoGrid Systems seeks a highly motivated, creative, and experienced SCADA engineer to program and support solutions for the integration of AutoGrid's advanced Energy Internet Platform with upstream markets and downstream devices.  This role is 100% remote with up to 25% travel required.  This role reports to the General Manager of the Energy AI Systems business unit and is expected to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation with the other members of the team. Remote work must be done from within the United States and must be available for frequent calls with teams in western Europe (eastern or central time zones or an early morning working schedule would be required).

The work consists of roughly 75% new development including both solution development on the Ignition SCADA platform and programming of industrial control hardware using IEC 61131 languages, and 25% support and troubleshooting of existing systems.  Support covers the full path from field hardware to network and VPN infrastructure to hosting all the way to cloud application integration.  A strong grasp of all relevant technologies and concepts is required.

Licensed professional electrical engineers are encouraged to apply, but a PE credential is not strictly necessary. A strong background in electric power generation concepts is required.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop, design, implement and support SCADA HMI (Human-Machine-Interface) screens in Ignition SCADA system using the Perspective web UI framework
  • Work with the customer delivery team and customer contacts on the specification, setup, and commissioning of field devices to be connected to the SCADA system and resolve any data or communication issues
  • Provide phone, email, and/or in person support for SCADA integrations - this includes international clients in Asia, Europe, and North America.  French language ability is helpful but not required.
  • Develop and/or improve on existing techniques and processes
  • Additional duties and responsibilities, as assigned

What We’re Looking for (Required)

  • 3+ years' experience in a similar role
  • SCADA programming experience in the electric power industry
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Proficient in Python
  • HMI Design and Development experience
  • Experience working with the OPC UA protocol and at least two of the following protocols: Modbus, DNP3, IEC 104, ICCP, and MQTT
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively in a geographically distributed team environment
  • Ability to work on-call
  • Working knowledge of the Linux operating system and networking with proficiency in the use of tools like netstat, tcpdump, ssh tunneling, etc.

What Sets You Apart (Preferred)

  • Electrical power systems engineering experience (PE helpful but not required)
  • Proficient with SQL and relational databases
  • Proficient in Java programming
  • Certification (any level) on the Ignition SCADA software platform
  • Proficiency with PLC programming tools and languages (CODESYS, Structured Text, ladder logic, etc.)

This is a challenging position and requires a very detail oriented person with high energy and exceptional problem solving skills. They must be highly motivated, have excellent communication skills, work complex problems to resolution, and be able to work in an around-the-clock distributed team environment.  Candidates will be expected to implement solutions covering different functional areas using the Ignition software platform as part of the interview process.

Benefits and Perks

  • Working with a smart, collaborative, and fun group of people solving big important problems
  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Competitive health care, dental, and vision coverage
